Moving on up!

It's summer in AZ (that's hot), but soon I move to colder climbs. Utah. Provo.

By sheer luck and a lot of determination I got into BYU, meaning I'm a shoe in for the animation dept, so I can finish my BFA.

ASU was mostly a waste of my time, OK studio art classes, but a crap animation program, I was VERY disappointed. At least in Utah I'll have some people who actually WORKED in the industry to teach me the ropes, thank goodness.

As a little Summer treat, I offer a two shot: first the crap 3D animation I made well past expectations of the ASU curriculum, not learning a DAMN thing new, and having to use my own equipment, even added music (some creative commons from NIN's Ghosts...good tunes) and sound effects. I feel gypped by the class, but at least I got a 30 second mild snicker to use in my growing portfolio.

Then in kind of a huff, and pissed I didn't learn anything at ASU, I resolved to finish my "Cookies and Milk" Maggie & Mitch piece this Summer before I have to move. Cleaned and colored, even wrote the music myself in Garageband.

I like the blog even if there's not much to say during a busy school year, college keeps me REAL busy too. So maybe another update in another 6 months we'll see, maybe I'll have better news more frequently.

Till Next time.

I have a BLOG?

Oh yeah that's right I do...

So maybe I should use it. Why so long a delay? Well long story short I graduated from Mesa CC and transferred to ASU. I planned on BYU, but they weren't going to accept all my credits and the animation portfolio review came up as a negative for go. So ASU it was. So I spent the last semester playing catch up on a few of the Req classes which meant a lot of studio time. It's holidays now so I have a bit of a break in the busy schedule.

I plan to use the blog more and keep up to date on projects and doings in the work, or any other news.

So let's see, upcoming and stuff in the works:

1. Maggie and Mitch (aka Murasaki Majo Maggie Matilla)
The one with the cute little purple girl and her enchanted, yet slighty creepy but adorable teddy bear. Besides a slew of concept and design art I have floating around, this one's
gone through several revisions. The now held plan is: First, an introductory illustration comic book of sorts. It's actually a lot of illustrations detailing Maggie and Mitch's origins. This too is getting the short animation treatment to coincide with the book, in a traditionally animated sense, or kind of like an animated storybook. (the plan being to sell the comic and DVD together. Slow going now, but at least I have all the pages/pictures ready. Now to find a good printer.

2. Shane Gun - Storyboarded, good idea for a sci-fi cowboy short animated film. I just CAN'T decide on a final "look" for Shane himself.

3. Captain Kelly - A little tricky here, Issue 2 is done and inked, BUT the WHOLE series is undergoing a little change, Issue 1 is getting a few added pages a few minor rewrites and a deeper storyline. and ALL PAGES will be colored, and online. If I can publish this one it'll be a miracle, and I'm already moving into Issue 3 as far as drawing and inking.

4. Popoki - Stirring from it's long abscence, and getting a new look (think old Looney Tunes-ish) a new story, a new Locale, new characters, and more in the works.

That's it for now, maybe 6 months from now I'll post another update.

DUEL Premiere!!!

http://www.dustbunnypictures.com/Gallery/Movies/Duel/duel.html

After about 2 months of Hard Work, I present my latest 5 Minute masterpiece, "Duel".

This one I pulled out all the stops for taking everything I'd learned to date, and combining my knowledge and talents into one project.

So for a final project in a film class, I think I did a pretty darn good job, this looks and feels like pro work to me.

So Follow the link, Hope you enjoy it!

The Sphinx has landed

The Sphinx has landed! Well all the principal filming on "Duel" is Complete, and I'm spending Thanksgiving weekend workin on effects shots, sound editing, music, titles and everything else that goes into a movie. If I'm lucky I'll finish the whole piece this week end, even though I have 2 more weeks to work on it, (and all my other finals) so I'm hopeful I'll get it done in a timely manner. But the composite shots are looking REALLY GOOD:

Here's Sphinx landing in front of yours truly, minus sound FX and music:

Most of the effects shots are easy on this piece, (thank goodness) which is why I'm able to finish it so rapidly. I hope the final piece looks as good as this (or better?)

Yesterday...uh...

Yes I realize I missed a Day, but to make up for it a post and a half. The Demo Reel is almost ready. I've shortened it in some areas to keep it to about 3 Min (which includes many of my upcoming projects), and decided to put in a "various/other"category at the end which has not only some good but unused (yet) pieces in 3D animation, but to include some traditional 2D style examples too)

AND to explain my absence of yesterday's post: MOVIE TIME!!

Film class is gaining momentum. Here are links to some work from the class so far:

Digital Story, "Turning Japanese" (8 MB):

and a class exercise in "editing in the camera" or getting a series of shots/edits to tell a story Ironically named "Under the Gun" because we had only two hours to shoot it, import, add a soundtrack and compress, and by the end of class 2 teams of 4 each had made a short film.
